Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find answers to the questions we receive most often.
If your question is not covered, please contact us. We will be happy to help.
Are you open to business partnerships?
Yes. We are always open to discussing partnerships and collaborations that are a good fit for both sides. Please contact us and tell us a little about your idea.
Can a project be completed in stages?
Yes. A project can be divided into clear phases, milestones or separate deliverables. We will agree on the sequence, review points and time frame with you before work begins, so that each stage remains transparent and manageable.
Can we rent one of your studios and bring our own engineer?
TMT-Media is not a traditional rental studio, but we can make exceptions depending on the project and availability. For insurance and operational reasons, one of our engineers must remain present throughout the session.
Can we work with you remotely?
Absolutely. We work with clients all around the world, and many projects can be completed entirely remotely. Remote recording sessions are also possible, depending on the project and technical setup.
Can you arrange session musicians, voice actors or translators?
Yes. We work with a broad network of in-house and external collaborators, including voice talent, studio musicians, translators, choirs and orchestras. Availability, usage rights and any third-party costs will be discussed with you before booking.
Can you create versions for different platforms and aspect ratios?
Yes. We can prepare landscape 16:9, square 1:1, vertical 9:16 and other versions for websites, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, broadcast, presentations and additional delivery platforms.
Straightforward format variations can often be included with little or no additional work. Some adaptations, however, may require reframing, cropping, repositioning titles or graphics, or creating a separate edit. We will explain any technical limitations and agree on the best approach with you before proceeding.
Can you handle only one part of post-production?
Yes, of course. You can commission only the part of post-production you need, such as editing, sound, colour grading, restoration, subtitles or final delivery.
We can also collaborate with other individuals or companies through secure project and media servers, established exchange formats and clearly defined handover stages. Explore our Services section or contact us to discuss the most practical workflow.
Can you help if my brief is not fully developed?
Absolutely. You do not need to arrive with every detail already decided. Our initial consultation is free of charge, and we can help you define the goals, scope, deliverables and most suitable workflow for your project. Learn more about our consulting service or simply contact us to get started.
Can you meet streaming, broadcast or cinema loudness specifications?
Yes. We routinely prepare broadcast-compliant audio and video and can deliver to relevant national, international and platform-specific requirements. This includes music streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music, online platforms such as YouTube, television and radio broadcast, cinema and other professional destinations.
For audio, we support stereo, surround and immersive workflows up to 7.1.4. Tell us where the finished work will be used, and we will confirm the appropriate loudness target, channel layout and technical delivery specification before production or mastering begins.
Can you record on location?
Absolutely. We have dedicated mobile and live-recording equipment as well as experienced staff for productions outside our studios. Please contact us as early as possible with the location, schedule and technical requirements so that we can plan the right setup. You can also learn more about our on-location recording service.
Can you reopen an archived project later?
Yes. We retain project files for one year after completion, and projects can normally be reopened during that period.
Afterwards, you can provide your own backup and we will do our best to restore the project. Reopening older sessions may require additional preparation time, especially when software, plug-ins or file formats have changed, so a small restoration fee may apply. We strongly recommend keeping an independent backup of all important source material and final deliverables.
Can you repair noisy or damaged recordings?
Yes. We use professional restoration tools and techniques to reduce noise, clicks, hum, distortion and other problems where the source material allows it. The achievable result always depends on the condition of the original recording, so we prefer to assess a short sample before making a firm recommendation.
You can find examples and further information on our audio restoration page.
Can you restore older audio or video material?
Yes. We can transfer and restore virtually every established audio carrier, including phonograph cylinders, shellac and vinyl records, compact cassettes, reel-to-reel tape, DAT, MiniDisc and CD. Restoration may include careful playback, digitisation, noise reduction, click and hum removal, repair and the preparation of preservation masters.
For film and video, we can restore most common historic film, tape and digital formats. Very large cinema film formats that require specialised projection or scanning equipment may need to be handled with an external specialist facility. The achievable result always depends on the condition of the original material, so we prefer to assess it before making a firm recommendation. Learn more about audio restoration and video restoration.
Can you sign a non-disclosure agreement?
Yes, of course. Non-disclosure agreements are common practice for confidential projects. Our project agreements also include confidentiality provisions, and we will not share sensitive information with third parties unless this has been agreed with you or is legally required.
Can you support live events outside your region?
Yes. We support productions nationally and internationally, subject to availability and practical planning.
Travel, transport, accommodation, local production support and the required lead time will be considered in the proposal. Please contact us as early as possible with the location, dates and technical requirements. You can also learn more about our live mixing services.
Can you work with sessions created in another DAW?
Yes. We regularly work with projects created in Steinberg Nuendo and Cubase, Apple Logic Pro, Avid Pro Tools and other common DAWs. Native sessions are possible when the required software, plug-ins, virtual instruments and compatible versions are available.
For reliable exchange between systems, consolidated WAV or BWF tracks, stems, AAF or OMF files are often the safest choice. We will confirm the best transfer method before you send the project.
Do you offer advice to emerging artists and bands?
Absolutely. We enjoy supporting emerging artists and are happy to offer guidance where possible. Depending on your needs and our availability, a short consultation may even be free of charge.
For more in-depth support, we also offer workshops from time to time. Upcoming workshops are announced in our News section.
Do you offer immersive audio mixing?
Yes. We create immersive audio mixes for music, film, broadcast and other media productions, with support for configurations up to 7.1.4. We can also prepare conventional stereo, surround and platform-specific versions from the same project where required.
The ideal format and delivery specifications depend on where the finished production will be used, so please contact us and tell us a little about your project.
Do you offer internships?
Yes. We offer a limited number of internships each year. Current opportunities will be announced in our News section. You are also welcome to contact us directly.
Do you offer stem mastering?
Yes. Stem mastering can provide more flexibility than traditional stereo mastering because selected groups of instruments or elements can be adjusted independently. It is not necessary for every project, so we will gladly advise whether stereo or stem mastering is the better choice for your material. Learn more about our mastering service.
Do you provide subtitles, captions or translated versions?
Yes. We can provide subtitles and captions as separate files or as text embedded directly into the finished video. Transcription and standard captioning are usually available for a modest additional fee.
Translated versions and localised voice-over are also possible, but they involve a more extensive process that may include translation, adaptation, casting, recording and additional editing. These services are therefore quoted separately. Learn more about our transcription and dubbing services.
Do you record voice-over, podcasts and dubbing?
Yes. We record, edit and mix voice-over for commercials, podcasts, films, online content and dubbing productions. Depending on the project, we can also assist with casting, direction, translation and localisation. More information is available on our dubbing service page.
Do you work with private clients as well as companies?
Yes. We welcome private clients, independent creators and organisations of every size. This includes first-time vloggers and emerging artists as well as established performers, record labels, agencies and film-production companies.
How are large or sensitive files transferred?
We provide encrypted media servers for secure uploads and downloads. Access can be limited to the relevant project participants, and transfer arrangements can be adapted to the sensitivity and size of the material.
You may also send physical storage media by post, deliver it in person, or ask us to use a suitable transfer solution already established by your organisation. Please contact us if your project has specific security or access-control requirements.
How can I apply for a job at TMT-Media?
Current vacancies will be published in our News section and on our social media channels. You are also welcome to send us a speculative application through our Contact section.
How far in advance should I book?
The earlier you contact us, the better. Advance booking gives us the best chance to reserve the right rooms, staff, equipment and production capacity for your preferred dates. Short-notice projects may still be possible, so please contact us and we will tell you honestly what we can accommodate.
How long do you keep project files?
We retain project files reliably for one year after the project has been completed. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend keeping your own independent backups of all final deliverables and important source material.
If required, we can also provide an additional project backup on your own physical storage medium or through a secure download.
How long will my project take?
The production time depends on the scope, complexity, scheduling requirements and our current workload. Before work begins, we will agree on a realistic deadline with you and include it in the project agreement or contract.
How much do revisions cost?
Reasonable revisions requested within 14 days of delivery are generally included at no additional cost, provided they remain within the originally agreed scope. We want the finished result to meet your expectations just as much as you do.
After the 14-day period, reopening and preparing the project may require additional time, so a small revision fee may apply. Major changes, such as re-recording complete sections or substantially changing the original brief, may also be quoted separately, regardless of when they are requested.
How should I prepare files for mixing or mastering?
Please send your files at their original sample rate and bit depth, and do not upsample them simply to reach a higher specification. For individual tracks, 24-bit or 32-bit floating-point WAV or BWF files are preferred. Leave comfortable headroom, avoid clipping, and do not permanently apply processing unless you are certain it is an essential part of the sound.
We can also work with complete DAW sessions, consolidated tracks, stems and common exchange formats. Before transfer, we will confirm the exact preparation requirements for your project so that nothing important is lost.
How will I review and approve the work?
Once you receive the first version, you will normally have 14 days to listen, review and send us your feedback. Reasonable changes requested during this period are included at no additional cost, provided they remain within the agreed project scope.
Clear, consolidated feedback helps us work efficiently and ensures that every requested change is addressed.
Is a deposit required?
Yes. We normally require a deposit to confirm the booking and reserve the necessary production time, staff and resources.
The remaining balance is generally due after final approval of the completed project, in accordance with the agreed delivery process. The exact amount, due dates and payment terms will always be stated clearly in your estimate or contract.
Is rush delivery available?
We do not offer a standard rush option because good work needs enough time and we do not want speed to compromise quality. We always plan each project as efficiently as possible, however, and if your deadline is genuinely urgent, please contact us. We will tell you honestly what can be achieved without lowering the standard of the result.
Is the initial consultation free?
Yes. The initial consultation is always free of charge and without obligation. It gives us an opportunity to understand your project, answer your first questions and determine the most suitable next steps together.
May TMT-Media show my project in its portfolio?
Only with your permission. If we would like to feature your project in our portfolio or on social media, we will ask first and agree on what may be shown and when it may be published.
This is particularly important for confidential or unreleased work, and you are always free to decline. Many clients welcome the additional exposure because it can benefit both sides, but portfolio use is never assumed.
What do I need for a remote recording session?
You will normally need a computer, a reliable internet connection, an audio interface, a suitable microphone and headphones, as well as a reasonably quiet recording space. The exact setup depends on the project, so we will discuss your individual requirements with you in advance.
In some cases, we may also be able to provide or arrange suitable equipment.
What happens after I approve the estimate?
Once the estimate has been approved, we will finalise and sign the project agreement or contract, confirm the deliverables and schedule, and arrange the transfer of any required material. We will then begin work according to the agreed timeline.
What happens if I cancel or postpone a project?
The exact terms depend on the project and are set out in your contract. Please let us know as soon as possible if your plans change so that we can discuss the available options.
Work already completed, non-refundable third-party costs and production time that can no longer be reassigned may remain chargeable. Postponed dates are subject to availability, but we will always try to find a fair and practical solution.
What happens if the project scope changes?
If the scope changes, we will discuss the effect on the schedule, workload and price with you before proceeding. Smaller adjustments may be covered by an updated agreement, while substantial changes may require an extension or a new contract. Nothing additional will be undertaken without your approval.
What information do you need to prepare an estimate?
Any information you can provide is helpful, for example your goals, the project scope, desired deliverables, schedule, references, available source material and any technical requirements. You do not need to prepare a perfect brief in advance; we will ask the right questions and guide you through the details needed for an accurate estimate.
You can send the information through our Contact section.
What information should be included in a technical rider?
The more relevant detail you provide, the better our team can prepare. A useful technical rider may include the venue and schedule, contact details, stage or room plan, input and output lists, microphones and DI requirements, playback, monitoring, power, networking, recording and delivery needs, and any special constraints.
You do not need to create it alone. We can provide a template or review the requirements with you personally. Simply contact us and we will help you prepare the right information.
What should I do if I cannot find the service I need?
Please contact us. In addition to the services presented in our Services section, we can often provide flexible, individually tailored solutions.
When a request falls outside our area of expertise, we may also be able to recommend one of our trusted partners.
Which file formats do you accept?
We can work with virtually all common professional audio, video and project formats. Typical audio files include WAV, Broadcast Wave (BWF), AIFF, FLAC, MP3 and AAC; project exchange may use stems, consolidated tracks, AAF, OMF or compatible DAW sessions.
Common video containers and codecs include MOV, MP4, MXF, Apple ProRes, Avid DNxHD/DNxHR, H.264 and H.265/HEVC. You can usually send material in its original format. We will review it and advise if a different export or exchange format would make the workflow safer or more efficient.
Which files will I receive at the end of the project?
The final deliverables are tailored to your needs and agreed before work begins. For audio projects, this may include high-resolution WAV or BWF masters, stems, instrumental or a cappella versions, MP3 or AAC reference files, and a Red Book-compatible DDP image for CD production.
Video delivery may include ProRes, DNxHD/DNxHR, MXF, H.264 or H.265/HEVC masters in the required resolution, frame rate, colour space and audio layout. If you require several formats, platform versions or technical specifications, we will be happy to prepare them as part of the delivery.
Which payment methods do you accept?
We support several payment methods, depending on your location, currency and the type of project. The available options and any relevant tax or transfer details will be confirmed in your estimate, contract or invoice.
Please contact us if you need to confirm a particular payment method before booking.
Which video formats and codecs do you accept?
We regularly work with MOV, MP4 and MXF files using professional codecs such as Apple ProRes, Avid DNxHD/DNxHR, H.264 and H.265/HEVC, as well as common image sequences and embedded or separate audio.
We can prepare web, social-media, streaming, cinema and broadcast-compliant video masters. If you are unsure how to export at the highest suitable quality, we will gladly advise you on resolution, frame rate, aspect ratio, codec, bit depth, colour space and audio channel layout. Tell us where the finished work will be used, and we will confirm the correct specification.
Who owns the final work and the source files?
You remain the owner of the original source material you provide to us. Our working files, editable sessions and production documents contain our technical and creative work and therefore remain TMT-Media production materials unless their transfer is expressly included in the agreement or purchased separately.
Once payment has been made in full, you receive the final deliverables and usage rights defined in your contract. Third-party material, such as licensed music, fonts or stock media, may remain subject to its own licence terms.
Who will be my main point of contact?
Whenever possible, you may request a particular engineer, producer or composer, subject to availability. If you are new to TMT-Media or do not have a preference, we will match your project with the person best suited to its creative and technical requirements.
You will have a clear main point of contact throughout the project.
Why are prices no longer listed on your website?
We removed the fixed price list intentionally because most projects are individual and require some planning before we can provide an accurate quote.
You can always contact us for a free, no-obligation estimate. We also continue to offer package and bundle options that can provide excellent value.
Why don't you publish an equipment list?
We deliberately focus on results rather than publishing a long list of equipment. Much like a carpenter is judged by the quality of their craftsmanship rather than the brands of their tools, great sound comes from experience, judgement and knowing how to use the available technology.
Naturally, our studios are equipped with professional, up-to-date audio and video equipment. Should your session or event have specific technical requirements, please contact us or send us your technical rider.
